Serene Silence

35 x 35 in
pastel on specialty paper

Cork. Yep. I weep for the loss of New York Central Art Supply whose 3rd Avenue basement of wonders even stocked this marvel of paper-making; a paper whose surface is covered in a thin layer of the heavenly textured arboreal swathe so closely associated with the beverage of choice at any old gallery opening.

This material no longer exists, sadly, so this only exemplar seeks to do it justice with an ethereal layer of white pastel floating in a ghostly fashion over the rough material underneath. The contrast of fine and rough, soft and tough, polished and raw is a key component that permeates throughout Luiza’s work; and this medium offers the perfect opportunity.
